Obituary

LOWVILLE - A funeral mass will be said for Violet Martin Hanno, 96, of the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Mrs. Hanno died on March 4, 2014. Mrs. Hanno was born in Croghan on August 29, 1917 a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mabel Lehman Martin, and lived in Lewis County all her life. She married Clinton P. Hanno on August 29, 1940 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Albert Richardson, then assistant pastor officiating. Mr. Hanno predeceased his wife on September 16, 1996. Surviving are a son, Bruce E. (Melissa) Hanno of Utica; a daughter, Carolyn (Kenneth) Walker of 140 Jacaranda Dr., Leesburg, FL 34748, formerly of Lowville and Harrisville; a brother, Quentin Martin of South Carolina; a granddaughter, Martha (Eric) Zabek of Utica, a new great grandson, Owen D. Zabek; a grandson Paul K. Walker and his family, Lisa Sharp, his fiancée, and great granddaughter, Juliannah Rose Walker, all of Antioch, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. A son, Martin L. Hanno, was killed in 1967 while serving his country in the Vietnam War, a granddaughter, Maren W. Hanno, who died in an automobile accident as a senior in high school in 1995. She is also predeceased by a sister, Joyce (Kenneth) Sliter, two brothers, Harrison and Wilbur Martin. Mrs. Hanno was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a Gold Star Mother, member of Lewis County VFW Auxiliary, former member of St. Therese's Guild. She was an avid bingo player, loved playing cards, listening to music and dancing all her life. She had resided at the health care facility since July 2009 and the family wishes to thank all those who assisted with her care on the third floor of the nursing home.
