Obituary

PORT LEYDEN - Van A. Planck, 54, of Douglas Street, formerly of Castorland, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Van was born on August 29, 1960, in Castorland, to the late Perry L. and Dorothy Nuspliger Planck. After graduating from Lowville Academy, he was employed by Climax for 23 years in both Castorland and in Lowville. He then went to work in Old Forge as the grounds keeper at Enchanted Forest. In his spare time, Van enjoyed fishing, hunting and just plain tinkering. He also loved special times with his grandchildren. Van is survived by his three sons: Christopher and Amy and her children Kadie and Kevin of Philadelphia, NY, Patrick and Brianne and children Nathan, Kierston and Camden of Castorland and Greg and Tara and children Hannah, Madelyn and Warren of Belfort; his companion Laurie Niemeier and her son Seth and friend Eden and daughters Kiara and Shylee and daughter Ashlee and Josh and their children Cade, twins Taya and Tye; his brother Perry L. and Cheryl of Castorland and his sister Rebecca and Frank Simmons of Copenhagen; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 8th from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Riverside Cemetery in Copenhagen with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister officiating. Memorials in Van's name may be made to: Castorland Fire Department.
