Obituary

CROGHAN - Theresa M. Schack, 81, died Friday afternoon, July 8, 2016, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville where she has resided since May of this year.
Theresa was born in Martinsburg on August 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Jarecki Schack.
Theresa graduated in 1951, from Augustinian Academy. Theresa was employed by Buckley Freight in West Carthage as bookkeeper; Lewis Lanes in Lewis County when it originally opened doing the books in the evening while being employed full time in the Lewis County Clerk's office; then employed in the Lewis County Judge's office under Judge Moran. In 1963, she was employed as administrative secretary for the President of Gould Paper Company which became a division of Georgia Pacific then Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper retiring from there after 33 years. Theresa worked as a court attendant in the Lewis County Court House for many years.
Theresa was certified as a certified Professional Secretary in September of 1983, at which time only 1060 secretaries in the US and Canada were certified.
Following retirement, she volunteered to teach 4th graders religion and was also a Eucharistic Minister for several years for St. Peter's in Lowville and each Sunday at the East Road Nursing Home.
Theresa was a member and communicant of both St. Stephen's and St. Peter's Catholic Church; a member of St. Stephen's Rosary Society and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Croghan.
Theresa donated her body to the anatomical gift program at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church on Friday, July 15th at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. Chapin officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial in St. Stephen's cemetery will be at a later date.
Theresa is survived by a daughter, Monica Plantz and son-in-law William Plantz; her brothers and sister: Carl and Verna, Mary and William Nennstiel, Tim and Lenna and Joe and Crystal; grandson Isaac Plantz and great granddaughter, Mollie Violet. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister, Lucille, brothers, Bernard and Robert and a grandson, Eric Plantz.
