LOWVILLE - Theresa F. Birchenough, 82, of the Bardo Road, passed away on Saturday evening, January 1, 2011, with her family at her side. A funeral mass will be said on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours and arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mrs. Birchenough's name. Born on March 1, 1928, in Dadville, NY, a daughter of the late Henry J. and Frances B. Becker Bush, Theresa graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1946. On September 30, 1950, she married Maurice Garnet Birchenough in St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Bremen, NY with Rev. Sixtus O'Connor, officiating. The couple observed their 60th wedding anniversary in September of 2010. Surviving besides her husband are nine sons and three daughters: Stephen and Marjorie, Turin; James and Pamela, Mexico, NY; Neil and Emma, Lowville; Mark and Linda, Castorland; Wayne and Kathy, New Bremen; Howard and Paula, Oregon, OH; Philip and Juli, Lowville; Donald and Tammi, Lowville and Roy and Diane, Lowville; three daughters: Ann and Douglas Wolff, Croghan; Amy and Donald Kraeger, Lowville and Colonel Helen K. Birchenough, Arlington, VA; four brothers: Robert Bush, Martinsburg, Lawrence Bush, Watertown, Clement and Bernard Bush of Lowville; two sisters: Christine Thoma, Castorland and Clara Matulewicz, Lowville. She had 26 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a grandson Jacob Birchenough, two sisters Margaret Tabolt and Marie Walters and a daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson Birchenough. Theresa was a member of St. Peters' Catholic Church in Lowville and its Altar and Rosary Society, where she enjoyed helping at various church functions. Theresa was a dedicated mother and homemaker raising her twelve children and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For a short time, she worked at the Dadville Tree Nursery. Along with spending time with her extended family, Theresa enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting and helping others.
