LOWVILLE - Terence B. "Terry" Podolski, 56, of Route 177, died on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Lewis County General Hospital. Born in Lowville on October 17, 1955, a son of the late Bernard P. and Mary Augustyn Podolski, Terry attended St. Peter's Catholic School for nine years and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1973 with high honors. He continued his education at SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry receiving a B.S. in Resource Management with a minor in Wood Products Engineering. He started work for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in 1977, working his way up to a permanent Forestry Technician specializing in Forest Insect and Disease Research and became a Senior Forester in 1989. During that time, he was influential in the Timber Sale and Inventory Program as he conducted several studies that enabled wood-using industries to feel confident in the available wood supply. Terry retired in September of 2010. Terry was a member of the Carthage Rod and Gun Club and a member of its trap team. He was also a founding member of the shooting team at the Beaver River Industrial shoot and a life member of the NRA. As an avid outdoorsman, Terry loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed time spent with his best friend, Bernie, his beagle. Surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, good friends and his sister-in-law Debbie Podolski of North Massapequa, NY. His brother, Frederick M. Podolski died before him. Terry was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating. Burial will follow at the Lowville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, March 27th from 6-8 p.m. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
