GLENFIELD – Susan Mae Roy, 82, formerly of Main Street, passed away on Monday morning, May 23, 2016, at Lewis County General Hospital. Sue was a resident of the residential healthcare facility.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of the Residential Health Care Facility for the care provided to Sue as well as the nurses on the East Wing of the hospital.
Susan was born in Lowville on April 26, 1934, to the late Lewis Amasa and Myrtle Mahala Reed Shumway where she graduated from Lowville Academy.
On June 3, 1953, she was married to Raymond George Roy with Rev. J. Martin Week, officiating. The couple made their home in Glenfield where Sue was a past member of the 3-G Auxiliary, member of the Glenfield United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, lifetime member of Valley Home Makers. Raymond died on June 9, 2015.
Her work career began at Roche's Soda Fountain formerly located in Lowville prior to her marriage. While raising her children she worked at the

as a cook and aide. She went on to become a care provider at various locations, The George Junior Republic in Freeville, Children's Home of Jefferson County, The Arc of Oneida-Lewis and the Lewis County Head Start in
Lyons
Falls
as well as for families in the area.
Sue enjoyed arts and crafts and her and Ray's work was well recognized in the community.
She was a member of the Adirondack Decorative Painters, and the Adirondack Scattered Red Hatters Society.
Sue also enjoyed spending time with her friends especially the Birthday Girls, Rose, Kathy, Shirley and Joanne.
She is survived by her five children, Raymond (Vicki) and Francis (Charlyn) Roy all of Glenfield, Gary (Dorothy) Roy of Boonville, Cindy (Bob) Griswold of Glenfield, Jeffrey (Yunmi) of Canastota, her beloved grandchildren, Shawn Lawrence, Melissa Roy, Amanda Roy, Thomas Roy and Andrea Roy, her great grandsons, Kaleb and Daniel Gage, her sister Sarah Edick "Pat" Melesky, her brother, Wilby Shumway, her sisters-in-law, Audrey Fenton, Tiny Gerow, Margie Barker, Dawn Roy, brother-in-law, Richard Roy, several nieces and nephews, several long time friends. She is predeceased by her infant daughter, Rhonda Sue.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016, on Raymond's Birthday, at 12:00 Noon at Beaches Bridge Cemetery with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister officiating. Family would like to invite everyone to the 3-G Fire Hall following the services.
