Ruth Barrett McGrath, of Clearwater, FL died peacefully on December 27 in hospice. She had been a resident of Regency Oaks in Clearwater since 2001. Before that she resided on Shady Avenue in Lowville, NY and spent her winters in Largo, FL. Ruth is survived by a niece and a nephew: Rosemary Sullivan, Winchester, MA and William Grunert, Buffalo, NY. Ruth was born in Gowganda, Ontario, Canada in 1915, daughter of Mary Bush Barrett and Thomas Barrett. She grew up in northern NY, living in Croghan and Lowville. She attended the Canton Agricultural College of New York State, majoring in Home Economics. In 1937 she married Kenneth McGrath and resided in Lowville. For many years she and Kenneth owned and operated Cohasset Hotel, a well-known Adirondack resort on Fourth Lake near Old Forge, NY. They retired in 1970 and travelled extensively in the United States and around the world. After Kenneth's death in 1983, Ruth continued to reside in Lowville and Largo until she moved to Regency Oaks. Ruth's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Peter's Catholic Church in May at a time and date to be announced.
