LOWVILLE - Robert C. Britton, 91, passed away on Sunday night, March 15, 2015, with his family by his side at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. Mr. Britton was born in Montague, a son of the late Edward and Louise Smith Britton on December 3, 1923. After attending school at Gardners Corners and Lowville Academy, Bob worked on his family farm until entering the Army in 1945 and he was honorably discharged. On September 16, 1949, he married Frances Farney at her parents home in Adams with William D Aubry, Minister of Gospel, officiating. In 1959, the couple purchased a farm on 177 and in 1969, they bought the New Boston Store, which they operated for a number of years. Bob was also employed by Kraft Foods for 13 years, retiring in 1986. He was Supervisor for the Town of Harrisburg from 1962-1971 and in his spare time very much enjoyed playing cards, gardening and visiting friends. He also enjoyed playing practical jokes on family, friends and his co-workers. Surviving Mr. Britton is his wife of 65 years, Frances and their children: Margaret and Fred Sweredoski of Lowville, Katie and Tom Ackerman of Wassaic, Patrick and Krystal Britton of Rome and Chet and Cheryl Britton of Lowville; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers: Carl, Edward, Leon, Leonard and Fred; his sister, Mildred Garcia, and a grandson, Robert Morales. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Deacon Mr. Ronald Pominville, officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Wednesday, March 18th, from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
