IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard J.
"Gork" Gorczyca, Sr.
November 2, 1948 – January 25, 2025
TURIN - Family and friends are invited to Richard "Gork" J. Gorczyca Sr., burial on Saturday, August 16th at 1:00pm at Brantingham Cemetery.
Richard "Gork" J. Gorczyca Sr., 76, of Turin, NY, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, under the compassionate care of Jefferson County Hospice.
Born on November 2, 1948, he was the only child of the late Edward "Buddie Eddie" and Delilia "Tootsie" Gorczyca. Richard was raised on the family farm in Turin and graduated with honors from South Lewis High School in 1966. During his school years, he excelled as a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, varsity football, and as a star player for varsity basketball.
On October 28, 1967, Richard married Sandra "Sandy" Cavanaugh at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Houseville. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage until her passing. Richard spent many years as a mechanic at Marmon Auto in Lyons Falls before returning to his roots in 1984 to start dairy farming with Sandy on Whiskey Lane in Turin. Later in life, he worked as a truck driver for Shufelt's in Remsen and also spent time logging.
Known for his vast knowledge and unforgettable personality, Richard was someone who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. In retirement, Richard devoted himself to caring for Sandy and found immense joy in supporting his beloved granddaughter Miranda Rys. Whether fixing things or traveling across the state to watch her play sports, she was truly the light of his life.
He is survived by his daughter Heather of Thomasville, NC; granddaughter Miranda Rys and her fiancé Zach Perini; two cherished sisters-in-law, Brenda and Frannie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Per Richard's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. A spring burial will take place at Brantingham Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside Sandy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jefferson County Hospice and close friends Ed Wurz and Bruce Youngs for their support during Richard's final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or the Lewis County Humane Society.
