Obituary

LOWVILLE – Richard C. "Dick" Percoski, 84, died early Saturday evening, August 10th, at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse.

Richard was born on November 18, 1939 in West Martinsburg, the son of the late Charles B. and Stephinie B. (Mazur) Percoski Delles. Dick grew up in West Lowville on the family dairy farm. It was there where he became interested in engines and rebuilding carburetors. He graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School. After graduation he became a mechanic for Doviak Chevrolet. He went on to Lowville Academy School Bus garage, where he was a mechanic and school bus driver. Dick retired in 2001 as Transportation Superintendent.

Richard was united in marriage to Maren Ann Tyrrell, on September 16, 1959 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The couple made their home on Stowe Street.

He is survived by his wife, Maren Ann, his two sons, Martin R. (Christina) Percoski; Andrew R. Percoski; his five granddaughters, Mallory McEwen (Samuel Buenrostro), Stephinie Larson (Dan Ruiz); Sarah Percoski (Geoffrey Engel); Katherine Percoski; Jennifer Percoski; and his granddog Sadie; his step brothers, Michael and John Delles; his step sister, Johanna Villanti; and several cousins and lifelong friends.

Richard is predeceased by his daughter, Gretchen Lynn Percoski, his parents and his step father, Frederick J. Delles.

Dick was a 65 year active member of the Lowville Fire Department. His service as Fire Chief was a combined 21 years. He was instrumental in establishing the fire department at its current location. He was proud to be a recipient from NYS Senator Griffo, who recognized him for 60 years of dedicated service to the Lowville Fire Department.

He was Past President of Polish American Citizens Club, a life member of Lowville B.P.O.E. Lodge #1605. An avid NASCAR fan, Dale Earnhardt #3, he raced and owned classic cars, he restored a 1956 Chevy, and he enjoyed going to the Syracuse Nationals. Dick was a well known woodworker, and he hosted the 4:30 Club.

Richard was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church where his funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, August 14th, at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Douglas Decker, Pastor officiating. Committal will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, August 13th, from 4 to 7:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home. Memorials in Dick's name may be made to: Lowville Fire Department, P.O. Box 81, Lowville, NY 13367

All are welcome to the Lowville Fire Department for a luncheon following the services.
