Obituary

GLENFIELD – Richard J. Dean, 68, of the Pine Grove Road, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Carthage.

Richard was born on March 6, 1948, in Lowville to Richard H. and Rosemary F. Hanno Dean. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1966, worked locally for a few years and then he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in Germany. During that time he proposed to his sweatheart Linda L. Briot and they were married, while Richard was on leave, April 19, 1969, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville with Rev. Albert G. Salmon, officiating. He returned to Germany where Linda was to join him but received orders and was deployed to Vietnam.

He worked for various construction companies including Memphis, Snyder, Congel and Reuter, Canastota, Deka-Therm and Bat-Con. He was employed as a forman and heavy equipment operator or superintendent. He was last employed by Marcellus Construction Company in Syracuse.

Richard was a life member of the Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W. and was a former member of the Northern Cruiser Classic Car Club. Richard and Linda enjoyed four-wheeling, snowmobiling, going to camp at Soft Maple and collecting and restoring classic cars. He also enjoyed hunting and a cold Genny Cream Ale.

Surviving are his wife, Linda; his mother, Rosemary; his siblings, William R. and Rosie Dean of Cleveland, TN; Cheryl and John Szewil of Lowville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Ralph Ludden, Robert and Lynda Briot and Karen and Duane Farney; several, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Timothy J. Dean, his father Richard H., his brothers, Gary N. and David M. and sisters, Patricia Mary Enslow, Kathy M. Steria, Carolle L. Thayer, Judy Ann Kellogg and nephews, Brenden Thayer and Christopher John Steria.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May17th from 5-8 p.m. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be said on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Lawrence Marullo officiating. Burial will be in the Beaches Bridge Cemetery with military honors.
