Obituary

GLENFIELD - Raymond George Roy, Sr., 84, better known as "Tadpole", passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in Syracuse at the VA Medical Center. Raymond was born on May 27, 1931, in Lowville to the late Antonias and Mildred E. Johnson Roy. After graduating from Lowville Academy in 1948, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, NC until 1952, when he was honorably discharged. On June 3, 1953, he married Susan Mae Shumway with Rev. J. Martin Week officiating. Raymond was a laborer for the majority of his life in the Lewis and Oswego Counties area. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping with his family, snowmobiling and hunting and was an avid wood worker who took pride in his carpentry work. "Tadpole" was a member of the Glenfield United Methodist Church, 3-G Fire Department, Lewis County Marine Corps Detachment 754, Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W., Beaver River Memorial Post #1663 American Legion, and the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1605, and Lewis County Citizens Patrol. Surviving Raymond are his wife of 62 years, Susan and their children: Raymond (Vicki) Jr. of Glenfield, Francis (Charlyn) of Glenfield, Gary of Boonville, Cindy (Bob) Griswold of Glenfield and Jeffery (Yunmi) of Canastota; five beloved grandchildren: Shawn Lawrence, Melissa Roy, Amanda Roy, Thomas Roy and Andrea Roy and his great grandsons: Kaleb and Daniel Gage; sisters: Marjorie Barker of Copenhagen, Audrey Fenton of Glenfield and Tiny Gerow of Number Four; his brother, Richard (Lisa) Roy of San Diego. He is predeceased by infant daughter Rhonda, his brother Dennis and his sister Barbara Mansville. Graveside services with military honors will be on Saturday, June 27th at 12:30 P.M. at Beaches Bridge Cemetery, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorials in "Tadpole's" name may be given to the Marine Corp League Scholarship or to a charity of one's choice.
