Obituary

Patricia Salsburg Patricia, 73, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 18, 2015, after more than a year-long, exceptionally courageous battle with cancer. Pat, the eldest daughter of Lawrence and Marguerite Archer Rhubart, was born December 24, 1941, in Lowville, New York, and grew up on the family dairy farm in Martinsburg. Patricia attended a one-room country school until the 6th grade and then went on to Lowville Academy, class of 1959. After high school, Pat graduated from Albany Business College. On April 15, 1961, Pat was married in Lowville's St. Peter's Catholic church to Fredric Salsburg of nearby Glenfield. In 1970 the couple moved with their three children to Victor, New York. After taking time to raise the children, Patricia worked in business, accounting, and sales positions. Pat returned to college, attending classes at night, and after many years earned a degree from Finger Lakes Community College. She worked as a travel agent until her retirement in 2005. For the last twenty years of her life, Patricia also worked part-time for Weight Watcher's. Pat enjoyed travel. She organized many family vacations while the children were growing. Later, she took trips far and wide with Fred and with friends. Many adventures were with her dear friend, Marilyn. Pat loved to visit other countries and enjoyed a number of interesting cruises. She and Fred visited Hawaii several times, and Fred liked to joke about how he thought he was marrying a Tug Hill farm girl, and she ended up traveling around the world. Pat knew how to work hard and applied that ethic in all her endeavors. She was a caring and religious person who kept an exceptionally clean and well-run house. Pat was a devoted and loving wife and was unabashedly proud of her children. She loved being "Ama" to her precious grandchildren Taylor, Logan, Colten, Sophie, and Annie, and cherished each one. Pat also adored her sisters and delighted in their non-stop conversations. She treasured her many friendships, some lasting from early childhood and her school days. She sustained her relationships in spite of distance and conditions. She was a loyal wife, faithful mother, and dedicated grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. During her illness, her family and friends did everything possible to make her days comfortable; many people cooked, baked, and visited. People sent hundreds of cards with heartfelt messages. Throughout her illness, Pat often told her loved ones that she had all she needed: Family, friends, and faith. Patricia is survived by her devoted husband Fred, of Victor; son Jeff and Colleen Salsburg, of Victor, and grandchildren Taylor, Logan, and Colten; daughter Nancy and Steve Kinnett, of Chagrin Falls, OH, and granddaughter Sophie; daughter Judi Salsburg and Tom Taylor, of Bristol, NY, and granddaughter Annie. She is also survived by siblings Ray (Mary) Rhubart, Connie (John) Alfano, Dot Adams, Tim Rhubart, and Jana Ingersoll. She was predeceased in death by her mother and father, Marguerite and Lawrence Rhubart, brother Larry Rhubart, niece Renee Rhubart Beyer, and brother-in-law Tim Adams. Patricia will be dearly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her simple courage, dignity, and grace will remain in our hearts forever. Friends and family may call SUNDAY, June 21, 1-4 pm at Jarmusz Cotton Funeral Home, 26 Maple Avenue, Victor, NY. Funeral Mass will be celebrated MONDAY, June 22, 11:00 am, at St. Patrick's Church, 115 Maple Avenue, Victor. Interment at Boughton Hill Cemetary will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Serenity House, 1278 Brace Road, Victor, NY, 14564.
