LOWVILLE - Patricia A. Lyng, 81, of Bostwick Street, died Friday evening, June 24, 2011 at her home under the care of her children. Born on September 20, 1929, in Greig, the daughter of the late Carl M. and Harriet Holland Sweeney and graduated from General Martin High School in 1948. She was married to Bruce P. Lyng on September 20, 1951. Bruce died on February 14, 1994. Pat worked as a switchboard operator for General Telephone and Electric and for the A&P grocery store and retired from Beaverite in Beaver Falls in 1995, after 26 years of service. Known as "Grandma Pat", by her grandchildren, Patricia loved taking care of them and following all their activities. She also enjoyed playing cards. She is survived by her four children, Christine C. and Kenneth Mayhew of Lyons Falls,Sharon M. Lyng of Watertown, Michael J. Lyng of Lowville and Kathleen Branagan of Lyons Falls; two brothers-in-law, Gerald "Joe" Steiner of Beaver Falls and Art Ingalls of Rochester and her three grandchildren, Jessica and her husband Jeremy Charles, Kerry Mayhew and Justin Branagan and two great-grandsons, Ivan and Owen Branagan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Merial Jewett of Watertown and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Alma Lyng of Westchester, PA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jerome Branagan; her brother, Carl W. Sweeney, Jr. and her sisters, Priscilla Condon, Marguerite "Pudge" Hellinger-Ingalls and Pauline Steiner. A graveside service will be on Monday, June 27, at 10:00am at Brantingham Cemetery with Rev. Christopher Carrara, officiating. Patricia had requested there be no calling hours.
