Obituary

LOWVILLE - Martha (Repak) McDonald of Lowville, New York, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Lewis County General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 89 years of age at the time of her death.

Born in the Town of Montague to Harry and Mary Repak, she attended country schools until high school when she attended and graduated from Lowville Academy. She married Gordon McDonald at St Mary's Church in Copenhagen with the Rev. Dennis Lynch officiating, and together they raised four children in Lowville. In her younger days she actively participated in the Gardner's Corner's Youth Grange, where she was a youth leader. Later, she was a devoted mother and homemaker, assisting in a variety of school, community and church activities in support of her children. Married to Gordon for over sixty years, she and he were inseparable until his death in 2010.

Martha loved reading, especially historical non-fiction, and visiting historical sites. Another favorite pastime was taking leisurely rides with family members to enjoy the scenery and the sounds of the Lewis County countryside. Those rides brought back fond memories of her childhood and her Repak heritage. She especially enjoyed spending time with and hearing about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a regular communicant at St. Peter's Church.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne F. McDonald and his wife, Christina, of Kingston, New York; and Alan J. McDonald and his wife, Wendy, of Southborough, Massachusetts; and two daughters, Karen Reape, and her husband Raymond, of Castorland, New York; and Jane C. McDonald, and her husband, Dr. Arthur Siegel, of Lincoln, Massachusetts. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ann and James McDonald; Kathleen Noftsier, Brian and John Reape; and Molly, Betsy and Timothy McDonald; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eva Millard; Madeline Pitcher, Katherine Bernat, and Irene Lehman, and one brother, John Repak and his wife Josephine. As well she had many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Gordon, she was also predeceased by four sisters, Mary (Doviak), Helen (Toth), Anna (Petrus), and Alice (Chambers); and one brother, Nicholas Repak. A third brother, Anthony Repak, died at birth.

Martha will be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife and mother.
