Mark Edward Vaughn
Mark Edward Vaughn passed away tragically as the result of a car accident on January 31, 2026, at the age of 62.
Mark was born on March 3, 1963, in Neenah, Wisconsin, the son of Carla Stai and the late Jerald Wilbert Vaughn. He graduated from Roundout Valley Central School in Accord, New York, Class of 1981. Following graduation, Mark proudly served in the United States Navy for six years, including three years at sea aboard the USS Guam, serving as an Electronics Technician, Petty Officer Second Class. He was honorably discharged in 1989.
Mark dedicated 27 years of service to Fort Drum, where he retired in 2022. Known for his commitment and reliability, he served as a supervisor for the airbase, holding the role of Maintenance Chief in IT.
On August 25, 2011, Mark married Debra L. Horning at their home in Chaumont, with Kimberly Wallace officiating. Mark and Deb made their home in the Town of Harrisburg.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Debby. He was the proud father of his children: his daughter, Staci A. Vaughn and her husband Jarrod Radley of Cape Vincent, his son Mark E. Vaughn, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Porters Corner. He was a cherished stepfather to Debby’s children: Larry Walker, Jr. and his wife Shaina of Chaumont, Jessie Walker and his wife Keira of Watertown, and Cory Walker and his wife Alena of Chaumont.
Mark was a proud grandfather—known affectionately as “Poppy”—to Valerie Vaughn; Madison and Mason; Greyson and Reid; and Jameson Walker.
He is also survived by his mother, Carla Douglas and her husband Gene; his brother, Boyd Vaughn and his wife Patricia; his sister, Jill Ragsdale and her husband Jim; his in-laws, Bob Perkins and his wife Linda; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
Mark was predeceased by his father, Jerald “Jerry” Wilbert Vaughn, in 2016.
Mark was a Life Member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, V.F.W.; a member and 2nd Commander of Lowville American Legion Post #162; and a member of B.P.O.E. Lowville Lodge #1605.
A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Mark proudly “bled green” and was the owner of two shares of the team. He enjoyed monthly trips to Turning Stone Casino with close friends Jen, Steve, and Jake. Mark’s religion, as he liked to say, was being with family at 4:30 in the morning getting ready to go hunting with Boyd, Marky, Larry, and Billy,—he was a passionate hunter who treasured those moments. He also enjoyed time spent with his good friends David and Jennifer.
Mark loved spending time with his family, especially vacations together with their four sons. And then there was the food truck, Moose Knuckles. Mark claimed he “hated it,” but once set up, he could always be found doing what he did best—visiting, laughing, and making friendships wherever they went.
Mark and Debby were inseparable and did everything together. They had planned to buy a camper and Mark wanted to visit Vegas. They especially enjoyed their vacations to Wisconsin and Georgia.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at The Drift Inn, 8304 River Road, Copenhagen, followed by military services. Everyone is welcome to remain for a Celebration of Life from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Food donations or a dish to pass may be dropped off starting at 10:30 on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions in Mark’s name may be made to: Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W., 7752 W. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367 or Lowville American Legion Post #162, 5383 Dayan Street, Lowville, NY 13367
