LOWVILLE- Margaret R. Mealus, 83, formerly of Hemlock Drive and Cicero, died late Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2016 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where she was residing.

Mrs. Mealus was born June 17, 1932 in Lowville, the daughter of the late Horace F. and Hazel Ann (Castle) Roy. Margaret graduated from Lowville Academy in 1950 and attended one year at Mercy Hospital for her LPN license. She married Earl L. Mealus on June 7, 1952 at St. Peter's Chapel with Rev. Adrian J. Carroll, officiating. Margaret started her nursing career at Carthage Hospital and then went to work for Dr. Kenneth Rasmussen. She returned to school at JCC from 1974 to 1978 and graduated with an associate degree in nursing and received her registered nursing license. Margaret worked for Dr. Robert Newlander, OBGYN office, in Syracuse , for 25 years.

She and Earl lived in Cicero before returning to Lowville. Earl died last fall on November 22nd.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah and (Frank) Gordon, and Mike and (Christine) Mealus all of Lowville and Bert Mealus of Cicero; five grandchildren, Beth, Julie, Aimee, Mike and Jason and two great-grandchildren, Christain and Sam; her sisters, Grace and (Bob) Sementelli of Chittenango; Cathy and (Tom) Schantz of Castorland; her brother, John and (Rosemary) Roy of N. Syracuse.

She is predeceased by her sister, Shirley McMahon, and infant sister, Eva Hermine Roy.

Calling hours will be on Sunday May 8th from 5 to 8:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville.

The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 9th at Sundquist Funeral Home, with Rev. Christopher Carrara officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery . Family and friends are invited to the V.F.W. in Lowville following the funeral services.
