LOWVILLE - Marcella "Sally" Paulsen died at her home, Saturday, September 5, 2015, following a short illness under the care of her family, friends and Hospice. Marcella was born October 9, 1919 in Hartland, Minnesota to Paul and Bertha Lynne. She attended grade school in Hartland and graduated from Freeborn High School in 1937 as class valedictorian. She married Bernard W. Paulsen on April 2, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana immediately prior to his deployment to the Pacific Theater with the 20th Air Force. Subsequent to his discharge from the Army, Bernard rejoined employment with Kraft Foods and they lived in several locations in mid-west before ultimately settling in Lowville in 1947. Marcella was a longstanding and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lowville. She held the positions of Sunday school teacher, trustee, member of the Mary Circle, and Church Treasurer for eight years. She was a member of the Eastern Star serving as Matron in 1958 and a member of the Lewis County Hospital Auxiliary. She was dedicated and meticulous house keeper taking great pride in her home. She enjoyed her flower gardens, cleaning, painting and organizing projects. For relaxation she read, enjoyed golf and following retirement she and Bernard traveled extensively visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Northern Europe and the Caribbean. Marcella is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth of Seattle WA; and David and Emily of Carthage, two grandchildren, Alex and Amelia Paulsen; four nephews, Paul and Linda Lynne of Hartland, MN; Mark and Lois Lynne of Logan, UT; Earl and Ann Lynne of Hartland, MN; and Philip Hoyne of Manly, IA. She is predeceased by her husband Bernard on May 13, 2012 following 69 years of marriage and her sister Connie and brother Evans. The family would like to express their thanks to many people who helped make Sally's last months safe and happy ones in her home; in particular Darlene Michalski. Donations in memory of Marcella can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lowville or a charity of ones choice. Her memorial service will be on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Herb Swanson, Pastor officiating. Burial will take place in Lowville Rural Cemetery on Thursday at 1:00 P.M.
