LOWVILLE – Lowell V. Hoffman, 85, passed away early Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at his home while under the care of Lewis County Hospice.
Lowell was born on December 4, 1931 in Lowville, the son of the late Valentine S. and Grace Hanno Hoffman. He graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served two years with one year of active duty in Korea and received the Purple Heart. Lowell was honorably discharged and returned to Lowville and worked in the family cheese business, Hoffman and Dudo, Inc., until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dolores (Voyer) Hoffman; their four children, Jill (Matt) Bush, Croghan; Scott (Michelle) Hoffman, West Grove, PA; Eric Hoffman, Winston Salem, NC; Mollie (Mark) Kavanagh, Groton, MA; five grandchildren, Anna and Karl Bush, Ryan Hoffman, Nathan and McKenna Kavanagh; his brother and sisters-in-law, Harold and Dianne Hoffman, Lowville; Bethany Hoffman, Massena; his sisters-in-law, Jeannette (Maurice) Murphy, Lowville; Helene (Kevin) Aubel, Baldwinsville; Denyse (Dennis) Dening, Lowville; a brother-in-law, Donald Voyer of Victor; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowell is pre deceased by an infant son, Michael; two brothers, Russell (Jane) Hoffman; Leonard Hoffman; two sisters, Mary Hoffman in infancy and Virginia (Rollian) Martin.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a life member of Lowville Elks Lodge #1605, a member of Lowville American Legion Post #162, and a member of Lewis County Memorial Post # 6912, V.F.W.
A funeral mass will be said on Saturday, March 25th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends may call on Friday, March 24th from 5 to 8:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
