LOWVILLE - Kenneth J. Boshart, Sr., 91, of Hillside Drive, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011, at Lewis County General Hospital.
Kenneth was born in Lowville on July 21, 1920, the son of the late Lewis James and May Graves Boshart and graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1938. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during WWII during which time he was married to Alma Rose Davoy at St. Stephen's Rectory in Croghan. Upon his discharge, Kenneth and "Rosie", his nickname for his wife, Alma, came back to Lewis County to help in the operation of the family farm, calling it the Boshart & Sons Hillside Farm, which they owned and operated until 1979.
Kenneth was a member of the Lowville American Legion #162 and the Lowville Elks BPOE #1605. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, golf and garden and he also enjoyed bowling and square dancing.
In addition to his wife, Alma "Rosie" of Lowville, Kenneth is survived by their eight children and their spouses: Timothy J. and Mary Ann Boshart of Glenfield; Sharyn and Ed Cate of Sedona, AZ; Carol and Charles Meeks of Auburn, NY; Constance and Kevin Helman of Carney, MI; Cynthia and Rickey Mushtare of Glenfield; Bradford J. and Kim Boshart and Kenneth J. and Karen Boshart all of Lowville and Cathy and Brian Dykeman of Brantingham; 29 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his son Gary L. Boshart; grandson, Elbridge Boshart, son of Tim and Mary Ann; granddaughter, Colleen Meeks and his four brothers, Milton, Foster, Richard and Carl and six sisters, Flossie, Vera, Ruth, Lois, Ethel and Doris.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville with Rev. Christopher Carrara officiating. Military burial will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Croghan. Family and friends may call at the Sundquist Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
