Obituary

Carthage, NY

Kelly Todd, 58, of Alexandria St. Carthage, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born in Watertown, NY on October 22, 1966 to the late Stanley C. Houppert and the late Mary Suzanne (Moran) Houppert, she was raised on a large dairy farm in Deer River. She attended Carthage Central School & received a certificate in computerized accounting from Bryant & Stratton Business institute in 1989. She received her LPN license from Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in 1992 and went on to receive her AAS in nursing from Jefferson Community College in 1998.

Kelly worked in various restaurants & bars as both waitress and bartender in Jefferson and Lewis Counties from 1985 - 1995. She worked as an Installment Loan Clerk at Jefferson National Bank from 1989-1990. She worked as a home health nurse for US Care beginning in 2000 until illness caused permanent disability.

Kelly married Michael R. Todd on June 6, 1999 at Partridge Berry Inn, Black River, with JOP Raymond Connolly officiating. Mike was the love of her life and never failed to be there for her through a myriad of health and personal battles.

Before becoming incapacitated, Kelly was very fond of traveling & took many fabulous trips to relax, rejuvenate and to soothe her soul. She enjoyed the outdoors & spent numerous weekends exploring the plethora of waterfalls in upstate NY with her husband. Later in their marriage, she and her husband purchased an RV and spent summers with their great-nephew and their dogs at an RV Resort on Lake Ontario. She always referred to that as her "happy place."

Kelly loved surrounding herself with her furbabies & raised 7 dogs and 3 cats during her 29 years together with her husband, many of them being rescues. They brought her insurmountable joy, comfort and healing through the years. She often stated she didn't know who rescued who.

Kelly was also a book enthusiast and enjoyed almost any fiction. She was an avid watcher of real life crime tv shows. Most any time of the day or night, you could find Kelly with her trusty iPad within reach, whether to playa quick game or look up an impromptu fun fact or tasty recipe.

Kelly is survived by her loving husband, her rescue pets, a labradoodle, Lucy, a pit bull mix, Charlie & 2 long hair kittens, Clementine & Lenyx. She is also survived by five siblings: three brothers - John (Darlene), Deer River, Joseph (companion, Katie), Palermo, James, (fiance, Timothy), Lake Nona, FL and a sister, Kristine, Lowville. Also surviving her are 6 nephews, 1 niece, 5 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces. She was especially close to her young great- nephew, Landon who she spent every weekend with.

Kelly is predeceased by her parents, her infant daughter, Cala Sue, and her infant son, Kolby.

In keeping with Kelly's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service; she will be cremated at her husband's discretion. A small private family memorial service will be held at the family's convenience. Arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville.
