LOWVILLE - Kathleen A. Dening, 88, of Water Street, died on Saturday afternoon, June 2, 2012, at Lewis County General Hospital, where she had been admitted earlier in the day. Kathleen was born on December 12, 1923, in the town of Martinsburg, a daughter of the late William M. and Delila Manzer Mahoney. She graduated in 1941, from Lowville Free Academy and was married to Donald F. Dening on February 12, 1945, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. John Hogan officiating. The couple made their home in Lowville where Mrs. Dening was employed by the Village of Lowville as assistant clerk until her retirement in 1988. Her husband, Donald died on January 22, 1996. Mrs. Dening was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a past auxiliary member of the Lowville Fire Department and volunteered for the Thrift Store in Lowville, Board of Elections, and she was a school lunch monitor at Lowville Academy. The best part of the day was when family would stop in and visit, especially when all three of her sons and wives were there for socialization. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always wanted to see her. Several live out of town and out of sate, and a visit from them would complete her day. She loved to read books and the news paper. A phone call from a friend or relative was always welcome. Kathleen liked flowers and to watch the birds outside her window on her bird feeder. She always had a kind word and will truly be missed by all that knew her. Surviving Kathleen are her sons and their spouses: Lawrence and Peg; Richard and Linda and Alan and Lori all of Lowville; her sister Delilah Mahoney also of Lowville; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her three brothers: Tom, John and Bill Mahoney and her sister Carmeletta "Carm" Weller Lormore. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Martinsburg Cemetery.
