LOWVILLE – Jeannine M. Brown, 74, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She died on Sunday evening, January 26th 2025, at Lewis County General Hospital with her family at her side.
Jeannine was born to the late Wesley A. and Iona M. (Jordan) Burnham on September 25, 1950 in Lowville. After graduating from Lowville High School in 1968, she went on to complete her Bachelor's degree in Linguistics at SUNY Binghamton. She married Robert J. Brown on August 5, 1977, officiated by the Justice of the Peace, Jesse Schantz, at his home. The couple made their home on the Ridge Road. Robert died on September 25, 1998.
She is survived by her two children, Johanna Steckly of Lynn, Ontario; Wesley and Michele Brown of Lowville; her four grandchildren, Cassandra, Kora, Mara, and Avery; her brother, Bert (Laurie) Burnham; her sisters, Colleen (James) Arvanites; Patricia (LeRoy) Mashaw; Mary Hughes; Barbara Burnham; brother-in-law, Carl McCracken; nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her son, Michael, her son-in-law, Ken Steckly, her brothers, David and Thomas Burnham, her sisters, Michelle Beebee and Nancy McCracken.
Jeannine was a member of Naumburg Mennonite Church, finding joy in the music, Bible study, and fellowship. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to her. She loved roses. She liked to sew, knit, and crochet. She was an avid reader of inspirational fiction and mysteries; she also enjoyed watching mysteries with her grandson. She delighted in cooking and baking with her granddaughters. She was a warm and kind individual who prayed and conversed with loved ones and strangers alike.
A memorial service will be held at the Naumburg Mennonite Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 11:00am with Rev. Myron Roggie, officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Tuesday, February 4th from 6 to 8:00pm at the Sundquist Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in Naumburg Mennonite Cemetery.
