LOWVILLE - Jeannette C. Murphy, 76, died Tuesday morning, October 24, 2023, at her home after a brief illness.
Jeannette was born on September 2, 1947, in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont the daughter of the late J. Guy and Rita M. (Sicard) Voyer. She attended Saint Johnsbury Academy until the family moved to New York in 1962. She graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School as an honors student in 1965 and earned Jefferson Community College. She started her career working for Lowville Telephone Co., A.M.F., and Meda's Drug Store, before being hired as a bank teller by the President of Lewis County Trust before moving on to work at Lewis County Social Services. Jeannette left the workforce to care for her family.
She started volunteering at St. Peter's School once her son "Eddie" entered kindergarten. She loved all volunteer roles at both the school and church, but she was best known as the "lunch co-ordinator from the early 1980's until the school closed in 2007.
Surviving are her son, Ed, his fiancée Michele, her three sisters, Dolores Hoffman; Helene (Kevin) Aubel; Denyse (Dennis) Dening; and her brother, Donald Voyer; several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as many in-laws in "Murph's" family.
Jeannette married Maurice L. Murphy on April 4, 1970, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Luker, officiating. Murph died on Monday, September 23, 2019. She is also predeceased by her infant son, Kenneth Philip, her sister Dianne, and two brothers-in-law, Lowell and Harold Hoffman.
Jeannette was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was an Election Inspector for the Lewis County Board of Elections for 33 years, she was an avid bowler and golfer, she could be found at Lewis Lanes, bowling on Thursday Night Muriel Hellinger Memorial League, and at Brantingham Golf Club, golfing on Monday mornings and Tuesday night women's league, where she served as secretary for many years. She loved helping in any way and being part of the community. She enjoyed traveling whether it was bowling trips, visiting family, or just her daily "tootle" around town. She enjoyed watching high school sports with Ed and cherished time with her family. She was in her glory entertaining Michele's grandkids who will miss her greatly.
A Mass will be said on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Rev. Douglas A. Decker, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, November 3rd, from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at Sundquist Funeral Home, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Lewis Country Search and Rescue, Lowville Academy Booster Club, or a charity of one's choice. Ed and Michele would like to thank all of Mom's caregivers and EMT's for their great care and service.
