Jean Ann Call, 86, died late Sunday evening, August 10, 2025 at Lewis County General Hospital under comfort care by the nursing staff.

Jean was born on October 17, 1938 in Lowville daughter of the late Jay Albert and Ella Florence (Peterson) Gallup. She spent her childhood at the Peterson farm in Martinsburg with her grandparents. Her childhood was spent exploring the countryside, Whetstone Gulf, and the kettle hole. Her early schooling was in a one room school house until junior high. She graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School, the Class of 1957. Jean stayed very active in class friendships and reunions.

Jean married Michael A. Call on October 1, 1960 in Houseville. She worked part-time for Lewis County General Hospital in admissions and as switchboard operator. The couple made their home on Trinity Avenue. Mike died on January 19, 2021.

She is survived by her four children, Teresa (Douglas) Howard; Patricia (Leonard) Augustyn; Michael (Pamela) Call; and Herbert (Beth Eischen) Call; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Jay, Matthew (Skylar), Emily (Chris), Cheyenne, Shelby, Garrett; Lili and Simon; her great grandchildren, Emmett, Carter, and Colin; and a very special niece, Deb (Fran) Dunn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean is predeceased by her two brothers, Richard "Dick" and Fred Gallup.

She was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and the Altar Rosary Society. She helped with the St. Peter's Festival, Harvest Dinner and spaghetti dinners. She and Mike also were greeters for Mass, helped on the hospitality committee, and helped in leading the Rosary at the nursing home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Rev. Sony G. Pulickal, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Cemetery. You may leave words of condolence at www.sundquistfh.com

Jean loved her Lowville community, was a member of the Red Hat Society, worked for the Board of Elections, and in early years was part of the local Home Dem. She cherished her family and friends and was the rock for everyone close to her heart.
