Obituary

BRANTINGHAM, NY - Jane Nortz Lormore, 75, formerly of Lowville, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015, in Jupiter, FL, as a result of ovarian cancer. Born in Lowville on August 28, 1939, to the late Russell H. and Ethel Niles Nortz, Jane graduated from Lowville Academy and continued on to receive a BA in music from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She was married to Dr. John F. Lormore on July 27, 1963; they were married 51 years. Jane taught music for four years in Brighton, at Lowville Academy and at Beaver River Central School prior to raising her family. She loved bringing music to others and taught piano for many years. She was a life-long member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville where she directed the choir for a number of years. She also directed many community choir organizations, as well as the music for many of Lowville Academy's senior plays. She was an active volunteer in numerous community organizations; was one of the founding members of Friends of Lewis County Hospice and served as a Director of the Northern New York Community Foundation. Janie's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Surviving Jane is her husband, John and their children, Michael (Martina Altschul) of Eagle, ID; Kelly Lormore of Indianapolis, IN and Melissa Laker (David) of Glen Ellyn, IL; "Nonnie" to five grandchildren, Emma, Hannah, Megan, Phoebe and Henry; sisters, Mary Lou Leene of Exeter, NH and Ethelyn (Thomas) Campbell of Shelburne, VT; sister-in-law, Carol Nortz of Fayetteville; brother-in-law, Stephen R. Lormore of Houston, TX and her many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She is predeceased by her brother, Michael N. Nortz; her in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lormore and brothers-in-law, Robert Leene, Edward C. Lormore, David Richardson and sister-in-law, Ann Lormore Richardson. The funeral mass will be said on Thursday, June 25th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, June 24th from 4 to 7:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville. Memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367; Lewis County Search & Rescue, P. O. Box 247, Lowville, NY 13367 or to the Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. The family wishes to thank Dr. Donna Pinelli, Dr.Tayla Schwarzberg, the staff of the Cancer Center of South Florida, all the caring staff at the Palm Beach County Hospice, both the Sunflower Team and at the Pavilion and all others who helped to care for Mom over the last 2.5 years.
