Jane Agnes Western Liscum, 84, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, December 14, 2025. She was born on July 18, 1941 in Lowville, to the late R. "Grant" and Elizabeth (Bobak) Western.

Jane attended a one room school house in Pine Grove and graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School in 1958. She then went on to graduate from Utica School of Commerce. Upon completion, she worked in the business office at NY Telephone Company in Utica. On October 7, 1961, she married Lloyd A Liscum at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lowville. They made their home in the Altmar area for 40+ years. Jane worked for the APW school district in the Altmar Elementary Library and the middle/high school Guidance offices for 30 years before retiring in 2000. After retirement, the couple moved back to Lowville to be closer to family and renew friendships.

Jane was the recipient of a double cornea transplant known as Keratoplasty. This plays a large role in the eye's ability to see clearly. She was often asked to speak at conferences from the transplant recipient’s point of view.

Jane is survived by her two sons: Grant (Beverly) Liscum-Moore of Mexico, NY; Matthew (fiancé Janet Bannister) Liscum of Mansfield Center, CT; three grandsons, William Liscum, Nicholas Liscum, and Collin Liscum all of Lebanon, CT; her sister-cuz Patricia Martin of New Hartford, NY and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lloyd; an infant sister Lillian Pearl; sister-cuz Carole and Kent Patterson; sister-in-law Maureen Moore Downing; brother-in-laws Stephen Martin, Robert Shockley, and James Moore; in-laws Arthur "Clair" (Jeanne) Moore, Leslie Liscum, Ardanell (John) Ostrowski; nephews Douglas Shambo, Daniel Shambo, and Wade Patterson.

Jane was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church; VFW Lewis County Memorial Post #6912; B.P.O.E Lodge #1605; Lowville American Legion Post #162; the Class of ‘58 Girls; Red Hats; Lewis County Board of Elections, and the Lewis County Historical Society. For many years, she decorated a Red Hat Tree for the annual Lewis County Christmas Tree Auction. Jane loved spending time with her family which was important to her. Jane and Lloyd traveled throughout the US & Canada. Her favorite saying was "Life is not a dress rehearsal. Make it count." The couple also played in weekly Euchre tournaments. She also had a love for all things cats and Elvis. On Sunday morning for over 10 years, Jane and Lloyd met with longtime friends Harley and Pat for breakfast.

The family would like to extend its greatest appreciation to the staff on the Rainbow Floor for their loving care and patience during Jane's stay; to the staff at the Office for the Aging for their support and knowledge. Also, to LouAnn, for her helping hand.
