LOWVILLE - James Frederick Bates, 65, formerly of Waters Terrace died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility with his brother at his side. Jim has been a resident since May of 2007. He was born on July 12, 1947 in Lowville the son of the late Leo Joseph and the late Dorothy Miller Bates. Jim attended Lowville Academy and Beaver River Central School. He worked for the Village of Lowville, and Lewis County Highway Department. In recent years Jim was self employed as a seasonal worker in the Lowville area. He is survived by his brother and wife, Thomas P. and Cindy Bates of Lowville; his aunt, Eleanor Bates of Clayton; his nephews, Sam and Amy Bates and their daughter Hannah of Au Sable Forks; Todd and Paula Bates, Gouverneur. He is predeceased by his uncle, Wilfred "Red" Bates, and his aunt and her husband, Monica and Leonard Crane. Jim was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight and member Knights of Columbus Council # 781, and a member of Lowville B.P.O.E. Lodge #1605.
