PORT LEYDEN - Irene A Fitzgerald 78, formerly of Shaver Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, where she has resided since 2005. Irene was born on October 24, 1933, in Constableville, the daughter of the late Frank and Ada Williams Mooney. She attended rural school in Lyonsdale and went on to graduate from Lyons Falls High School. On September 8, 1951 she married Royce "Pete" Fitzgerald at the First Congregation Church in Port Leyden with Rev. Buell officiating. Irene was employed for, Lally Manufacturing Co. in Port Leyden, a waitress for Slims Restaurant in Boonville, she worked in Old Forge at The Forge Motel, and Clark's Beach Motel where she retired as head housekeeper. In her spare time Irene enjoyed crocheting, knitting and loved playing Yahtzee with her family. In addition to her husband, Royce, Irene is survived by their sons, Royce and his wife Brenda of Port Leyden; Kevin and his companion Rea of Elmira; six grandchildren, Royce and Sharon Fitzgerald, Denielle and Beau Bailey, Ryan Fitzgerald, Kevin Fitzgerald Jr. Shawn Fitzgerald and Beth Fitzgerald; and six great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Galarneau and Almeta Szewczyk, her brothers Francis, Foster, Theodore, Clayton, Stanley & Marshall Mooney and a brother in law Kenneth Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25th at 11:00am at the Calvary Bible Church, on Sweeney Road in Greig, where Irene and Royce were members, with Pastor Jim Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls following the funeral. Family and friends may call on Monday evening, September 24th, from 6 to 8pm. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
