LOWVILLE - Helen M. Ferguson, 95, a resident of the Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center died on Sunday, July 31, 2011 and under the care of the nursing staff, and with her family at her side. Born in Lowville on September 4, 1915 the daughter of the late James J. and Mary Wolff McCarthy, she graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1933. Helen attended Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg. She married Ivan Fenton at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. Murray officiating. The couple resided in Boonville for many years until Mr. Fenton's death. While there Helen was engaged in private duty nursing. Mrs. Ferguson married James Ferguson on August 10, 1963 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boonville with Msgr. Robert Sullivan officiating. She and her husband resided in Clear Lake and after his retirement in 1979, they spent winters in Lakeland and St. Petersburg Florida .The couple resided on S. State Street in Lowville. Mr. Ferguson died in 1993. Mrs. Ferguson was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was past regent of the Daughters of Isabella and a member of St. Joseph's Alter Rosary Society. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Lee Wattendorf of Troy; Denise and Ric Eastman of Eaton; two step-daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Keener of Big Moose; Kathleen Ferguson of Denver, CO; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her great grandson, Jacob Mooney; a brother Dr. James McCarthy; four sisters, Susanna T. O'Brien, Mary E. Brant, Genevieve Gorczyca, Veronica Jones. A funeral mass will be said on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. A prayer service for family and friends will be Wednesday morning at 10:00am at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
