LOWVILLE - Harold R. Engelhart, 99, formerly of town of Watson, died late Friday evening, January 9, 2026 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility.

Harold was born on October 31, 1926 in the town of Harrisburg, the son of the late Frank C. and Elizabeth H. (McDonald) Engelhart. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1943 and served in the North Atlantic on a wooden mine sweeper as a Motor Machinist’s Mate, Third Class. Harold was honorably discharged from WW II in July of 1946. He built a long career with NYS DOT as a civil engineer working on many bridge and road projects. In later years Harold worked for various consulting firms on engineering projects for NYS.

He is survived by his five sons and families, Brent (Lynne) Engelhart, James (Ta) Engelhart, David Engelhart, Peter (Julie) Engelhart, and Kurt (Jennifer) Engelhart; his 11 grandchildren, Christian, Andrew, Jason, Allyson, Zachary, Justin, Chelsey, Elijah, Adrionna, Kaje, and Mia; his seven great grandchildren, Amber, Kellen, Hunter, Charlie, Lily, Lucas, and Jacob; and nieces and nephews.

Harold is predeceased by his spouses, Margaret and Nancy; his siblings, Helen Carroll, Frederick Engelhart, Monica Parr, Veronica Engelhart, and Francis Engelhart.

Harold was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, a member of Little Pine Creek hunting club since 1968, where he enjoyed hunting, a beer with the guys, and cards. Harold was a member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW, and Lowville American Legion #162. He loved family time and especially the grandkids. He built two houses and was an excellent mason, he helped Peter build his fireplace, and was great carpenter. Harold’s favorite football team was the one that was winning.
