Obituary

GLENFIELD - Gerald R. "Skeeter" Crouse, 80, of Blue Street died Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where he was a resident since August of this year.

Born in E. Martinsburg on the old Marks' Homestead on Route 12, on November 25, 1927, the son of the late Gerald U. and Marion Ashute Crouse, he graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1945. He joined the US Army in February of 1946, and was stationed on Adak Island in the Aleutians as a clerk-typist until being honorably discharged in July of 1947. On July 3, 1949, he married Regina Bell Green at the Carthage Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Chanley, pastor officiating.

Mr. Crouse worked for Payne Jones in Lowville for 44 years as a shipping clerk and retiring on October 16, 1989.

In addition to his wife Regina of Glenfield, Mr. Crouse is survived by five children: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald R. Jr., and Rosemary of Boonville, Kevin K. and Kimberly of Rome, Dana M. and Cindy of Lowville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Orlo Norton of Glenfield and Marshane and Terry DeMarco of Felts Mills; ten grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A brother Theldon Crouse, and a sister Thelma Crouse Albertson died before him.

Gerald enjoyed bowling, golfing and hunting and in recent years enjoyed using his computer. He was a member of the Lowville American Legion Post # 162, and a former member of the Masons, and Fellowcraft Club.

Mr. Crouse donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY, Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. All services will be private.
