LOWVILLE - Esther A. Windover, 95, formerly of Rural Avenue and East Road Adult Home died late Wednesday evening, April 1, 2015 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Lowville on April 16, 1919 the daughter of the late Adelbert C. and Cora Eva (Failing) Berrus. Esther graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1936. She married Leslie D. Windover on June 4, 1937 at New Bremen Methodist Parsonage With Rev. Charles A. Barrett officiating. Leslie died on May 6, 1999. She was a 55 year member of the First Presbyterian Church and Women's Association. Esther was a Cub Scout Den Mother, member of Monday Morning knitting group for over 40 years, one of the founding members, and Esther also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Surviving are her five children, her two daughters, Shirley A. (Eugene) Aucter of Croghan; Jane A. Farney of Lowville; her three sons, James A. and (Violeta) of Hampton, VA; Bernard F. of Ellisburg; John and (Lori) of Lowville; a daughter-in-law, Vicky Windover of Copenhagen; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Dickinson L. Windover who died in March of 2008, and her sister, Mary E. Doney. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Herb Swanson, Pastor, officiating. At a later date her burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Memorial's in Esther's name may be made to: First Presbyterian Church, 7707 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367 Esther believed in helping others and has donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
