Elmer James Steria, 96, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at Scripps Green Hospital, La Jolla, CA., following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Grace (Zehr) Steria and his children, Gary and wife Irene; Calvin; Roberta and husband James; Martha; Paul and wife Mary Ellen; Elmer Jr.; and Stephen. Also his loving grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grandchildren. His three sons Carl, Herbert, and Gabriel and a daughter Bonnie have preceded him in death. Born and raised in Kirschnerville, first of thirteen children, to Joseph and Helena Nafziger Steria. Elmer had many interests from dairying, St Regis Paper Company, to carpet cleaning, sugaring, antique collecting/auctions and owning properties while raising his family in New York to California He not only took pride in his endeavors but truly cherished the friends he made along the way with his work ethics and integrity he became an example for all. A memorial service will be held in San Diego, CA, with a church service to be held in Croghan, in the spring of 2013 at the Croghan Mennonite Church with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Elmer's wish is to support the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery Fund, Kirschnerville Rd, Croghan, NY 13327. We'll miss him dearly.
