Obituary

BRANTINGHAM - Ellen Gallup Lorenzini, 96, passed away peacefully March 26, 2018 at the Searles Care Home, Tucson , AZ , with her son Michael, by her side.  She took Dad's hand again for her final journey, while family & friends who'd gone before shouted with joy, "Here she comes!"

Ellen was born on October 5, 1921 in Lowville to the late Harvey and Mary Kohler Gallup. A member of the National Honor Society, she graduated in 1939 from Lowville Free Academy , she graduated from Albany Business College in 1940, then worked as assistant clerk of the Lewis County Selective Service Board until her marriage.

Ellen married Virgil Lorenzini on January 7, 1945 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville. They moved to Olean , NY upon Virgil's discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps September 1945.

She served as Olean PTA Council Secretary; St. Mary of the Angel's parish quadrant chairman of the Bishop's Committee for Christian Home & Family; on two Olean City Charter Commissions; director of the County Women's Republican Club; on the Cattaraugus County Republican Committee (elected Secretary 1966-1986), when she met Gov. Nelson Rockefeller.

She was elected an alternate delegate from the 39th congressional district to the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas City , where she & Virgil met President Ford, Robert Dole & Ronald Reagan.

She was elected Ward 2 Alderman to the Olean City Council, serving 1978-1985; was instrumental in obtaining a K-9 Unit for the Olean Police Department, among other accomplishments. When Virgil retired in 1987, they took the trip of a lifetime to Australia for 2 plus months; they moved to Brantingham in 1990, spending many winters in Tucson , AZ.

Ellen was a member of Olean Bartlett Country Club Ladies Golf Assoc; Brantingham Golf Club; Brantingham Community Assoc; and a communicant of St. Mary's of the Angels Church, Olean , and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Glenfield.

Ellen is survived by daughters, Sue, Tucson, AZ and Ann (James) Bellanca, Brooklyn, NY; sons, Thomas (Peggy) and Michael, Tucson, AZ; a sister, Elizabeth Fogarty, Potsdam, NY; grandchildren, Melissa (Marc) Rivas, Phoenix, AZ; Maggie & Maria Bellanca, Brooklyn, NY; Ashley & Stephanie Lorenzini, Tucson, AZ; Anthony Lorenzini, U.S. Marine Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren: Brody & Beckett Rivas, Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Virgil, on February 17, 2009 ; her granddaughters, Michelle & Gina Lorenzini; her sister, Mary Jane Whitford; her brother, Walter Gallup.

A funeral mass will be said on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Brantingham Cemetery.
