Obituary

GLENFIELD - Elizabeth J. Western, of the Pine Grove Road, died early Sunday afternoon, September 20, 2015, with her family at her side at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided since June of this year.

Mrs. Western celebrated her 102nd birthday on Saturday. Mrs. Western was born September 19, 1913, in Leechburg, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Agnes (Angelovich) Bobak, Sr. The family moved to Sperryville and then to the Wetmore Road where she attended the one-room school on the corner of the Chases Lake Road and Wetmore Road. As a young woman, she worked as a care giver for various families in the area. She later was employed at Beaverite Products in Glenfield and retired after 30 years.

On January 19, 1934, Elizabeth was married to R. Grant Western in the Town of Watson. He died on July 24, 1982.

Mrs. Western was a long-time member of the Trinity Episcopal Church; a member of the Lewis County Post #6912 V.F.W. Auxiliary, Singing Waters Senior Citizens and volunteered for Head-to-Toe. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, needlework, flowers, her cats, going for rides on a motorcycle, her family and many friends both young and old.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Lloyd Liscum of Lowville; grandchildren Grant (Beverly) of NM and Matthew (Christine) and their sons William, Nicholas and Collin all of CT; special nieces and their families Patricia (Stephen) Martin of New Hartford and Carole (Kent) Patterson of Greig. (These sisters grew up with Grant and Elizabeth) and several other nieces, nephews and good friends.

Mrs. Western is predeceased by an infant daughter, Lillian Pearl; her sisters, Julia Crosby Wilder, Mary Olmstead, Agnes Ager Anderson, and her brother Joseph C. Bobak, Jr.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 4:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5411 Trinity Avenue, Lowville, NY with Rev. Ed J. Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sundquist Funeral Home prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 12 (noon) to 3 P.M.
