While at Dickinson, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and it was there that he met many lifelong friends. Ed continued his education through graduate work at Rutgers University, Columbia University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
College graduation brought Ed a teaching opportunity in Lyons Falls, NY where he settled, married, and raised a family. There he became greatly involved in the community.
He began teaching mathematics and science at Lyons Falls High School and was promoted to supervising principal and eventually to District Superintendent of the South Lewis School District from 1965 to 1980.
