Obituary

LOWVILLE - Edward Francis Markowski, 96, a resident of the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility since January 2013, died early Sunday morning, April 21, 2013 under the care of the third floor nurses, and his twin daughters Janise and Janet. Mr. Markowski was born January 8, 1917 in Martinsburg, the son of the late Kazmir and Vincenta Curla Markowski. He graduated from Lowville Free Academy and married Rose Anna Waligory on August 18, 1940 at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church with the Rev. Herman Korzuci officiating. Ed and Rose owned and operated a dairy farm where they raised there family on the Number Four Road. Ed retired in 1983 after 67 years as a dairy farmer. Rose died on Monday, January 19, 2009. Mr. Markowski was formerly of Valley View Courts. He is survived by his five children, four daughters: Irene and her husband Doug Farney of Bluffton, SC, Janise Markowski of Lowville, Janet and her husband Bob Antonius of Lowville; Anne and her husband Philip Morrison of Pacifica, CA ; his son: Charles Markowski and his wife Beverly of Elmira; a son-in-law Paul Kline of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. Ed was very proud of all of his grandchildren. Ed is predeceased by his daughter, Helen Kline who died in 1991, and a sister, Mary Kozak. Mr. Markowski was a communicant of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Lowville B.P.O.E Lodge #1605, Lake of the Woods Fishing Club and Lower Balsam Flats Hunting Club. As an outdoorsman he loved to feed the deer and bird watch. He was an avid bowler and bowled in the leagues for over ten years at Lewis Lanes. He was proud of his Polish heritage. A Mass will be said at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Houseville, NY with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Markowski family would like to thank the third floor nursing home staff for the excellent care of their father.
