Obituary

LOWVILLE – Earl L. Mealus, 88, of Hemlock Drive, formerly of Cicero, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 22, 2015, in the palliative care unit at Lewis County General Hospital with his family by his side.

Earl was born in Greig, on May 5, 1927, to the late Roy and Mildred E. Waldron Mealus and attended country school and General Martin High School. Earl enlisted in the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1947 from the Military Police. On June 7, 1952, he married Margaret Ann Roy in the chapel of St. Peter's Church with Rev. Adrian J. Carroll, officiating.

Earl drove truck for over 40 years beginning with D.L. Reed in Carthage, Buckley Motor Express in Carthage, W.T. Burns in Watertown and retired from Pacific International Express "PIE". In his spare time, Earl loved hunting, ATV four wheeling and snowmobiling.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, Earl is survived by their children: Deborah (Frank) Gordon and Mike (Christine) Mealus all of Lowville and Bert Mealus of Cicero; his brother, John (Sue) Mealus of Texas; his sister; Lucy (Richard) Kapfer of Glenfield and five grandchildren, Beth, Julie, Aimee, Mike and Jason and one great-grandson, Christain. His brother, Bert and infant brother Floyd and his sisters, Eileen Kovach-von Behren and Ruth Snyder predeceased him.

Per Earl, casual dress for visitation on Tuesday, November 24th from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home and as well for the funeral service to be held on Wednesday, November 25th, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Carrara, Pastor of St. Peter's Catholic Church officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Lowville Rural Cemetery.
