LOWVILLE - Dorothy Louise Arvanites, 88, of Elm Street, died in the company of her five children and the attentive care of Lewis County Hospice on Thursday, January 27, 2011. She is survived by three daughters, two sons and their spouses; Dorothy Monnat and her husband Steve of Lowville; Jane Arvanites of Albany; Andrea Lee and her husband Dennis of Lowville; James Mark Arvanites and his wife Colleen of Lowville; Dokson Arvanites and his wife Gale of South Pasadena, CA; her former husband, James H. Arvanites of Campbell St., Lowville; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Middletown on February 27, 1922. She was the daughter of Anna and Dokson Jones. Dorothy was a graduate of Middletown High School, and attended dietitian school in NYC. Locally she worked at Beaches Landing and Pa Pa Joe's for many years. She also owned her own professional seamstress business at home, and was known as the " phantom seamstress of Elm Street " for over 40 years. She loved to read, work on puzzles and traveled many times to the north and southwest. Dorothy requested no calling hours and was honored privately by her family.
