LOWVILLE - Doris A. Petrovitz, 87, Lowville Heights, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011, at Lewis County General Hospital.
Her funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 8th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating with burial following in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 9:00 A.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
Contributions may be made in Doris' name to St. Peter's Catholic Church Memorial Fund, Lowville, NY 13367.
Family and friends may call at the Sundquist Funeral Home on Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 5-8 P.M. during which time the V.F.W. Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7:00pm.
Doris was born on June 7, 1924, in the Town of Martinsburg, the daughter of the late Daniel and Anna Flander McGrath and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1940. On June 17, 1942, she was married to William J. Petrovitz in St. Peter's Catholic Church. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in West Martinsburg until 1970, when they sold the farm. In 1971, Mrs. Petrovitz began working at AMF until her retirement in 1988. Her husband, William died in 1989.
Doris was a devout member and communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church and its St. Peter's Rosary and Altar Society. She was also a very active member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 VFW Auxiliary; a member of the Lowville Senior Citizens Club, Singing Waters Senior Citizens Club, Martinsburg Historical Society, Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary for which she volunteered her time working in the Hospital Gift Shop.
Among her many other interests, Doris enjoyed dancing, playing euchre, word puzzles, jig saw puzzles and spending time with her family.
Surviving Mrs. Petrovitz is her son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Carol Petrovitz of Highland, NY; her daughters and their husbands, Norma and Fred Clark and Betty and Wayne Davis all of Lowville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Doris was predeceased by seven brothers, Maynard P., Vincent J., Raymond D., Leo J., Donald G., Bernard G., and Maurice E. McGrath and two sisters, Madaline Weigandt and Mary J. Schwendy.
