NEW BREMEN - David Allen Houghton, 63, died in the early afternoon of Monday, March 31, 2014, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Mr. Houghton was born November 14, 1950, in Carthage the son of the Walter L. and Rosemary E. Hofer Houghton. After attending Copenhagen High School, David went to work for General Sign in Carthage and retired as an over-the-road truck driver for Elmer Moser & Sons in Castorland. His real love was operating heavy equipment for his own backhoe service, "Jay's Backhoe Service". He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and loved fishing. Surviving are his mother, Rosemary of Copenhagen; his children: Jason E. Houghton and companion Tracie Dean of Lowville; Kathy and Pat Prashaw of Boonville; Robert Houghton of Rome; James Houghton of Syracuse; Brandie Houghton of Florida; Chris Planck of Naumburg; Greg Planck of Belfort; Patrick Planck and fiancé Brianne McCue of Naumburg; two sisters, Linda L. Snyder of Mannsville; Marianne McLane of Carthage; a brother, Steve M. and his wife Gail Houghton of Castorland; several grandchildren and a great grandson. He is predeceased by his father, Walter L. Houghton and brother-in-law Jerry L. Snyder. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, Naumburg with Rev. Linda J. Harris officiating. Spring burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday, April 3rd from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home. Memorials in David's name may be made to the Beaver Valley United Methodist Church.
