CARTHAGE - Daniel C. Sauer, 65, was stricken at his home and died Friday morning, June 27, 2014 at Carthage Area Hospital. Dan was born on October 3, 1948 in Carthage the son of the late Clarence M. and Gertrude Wilson Sauer and attended school in Carthage and graduated from Beaver River Central School. He served with the U.S. Army for two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in December of 1970. Dan married Laurie Terry on August 25, 2006 in Lowville at their home with close family friend Roger Branagan, officiating. As an active antique collector of millstones, sickles and saws and took great pride in his display and landscaping at his home where he always could be found with his dog "Jake". He is survived by his wife Laurie, and their four children, Amanda Potter, Dustin Sauer, Stephen Wilton-Terry, and Sarah Wilton; his five grandchildren; and three sisters, Connie and Ron Duncan, Kris and Mike Parsons, and Barb Hellinger. His funeral service will be on Monday, June 30th at 2:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister, officiating. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. A military burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Carthage at a later date.
