Obituary

LOWVILLE- Clifford J. Bailey, 89, of the East Road died late afternoon on Tuesday, July 14th at his home with his loving family at his side and under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

Cliff was born in Watson on November 15, 1925 one of twelve children of the late George W. and Grace M. Sullivan Bailey. He graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1943 and was a WW II veteran serving in the US Army as a Military Policeman. Clifford was united in marriage on January 12, 1949 to the late Eleanor E. Zehr at the Lowville Baptist with Pastor William Sawin officiating and where Cliff made it his home on Sundays for over 66 years. He was a man of conviction and great faith. He worked for Lewis County Highway Department with his father on the bridge crew. Cliff always said "If you drove across any bridge in Lewis County he and his father helped build it." He then went on to work for and retired from, Boise Cascade in Lowville.

Cliff was an avid outdoorsman enjoying, hunting, fishing, trapping, 4 wheeling. He loved playing horseshoes, cards and bowling at Lewis Lanes with his wife and son. Cliff umpired girl's school softball, church and county league softball games, and avid Yanks fan!

He is survived by his six children, Frank and Leslie Bailey of Liverpool; Gene and Cindy Bailey of Glenfield; Betty "Betts" and John Csizmar of Glenfield; Suzanne Bailey, Melody Vance and Laurie and Jerry Millard all of Lowville; his son-in-law, Jim André and his wife Laura; 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton of N. Western; Vernon and Cheryl of Old Glendale; two brothers-in-law, Ben Blair, Sr. and Blair Buell both of Lowville; his aunt June Freeburn; many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Clifford is predeceased by his daughter, Barbara L. André; his granddaughter, Rebecca Jo André, and his son-in-law John M. Vance; his siblings, Bernard "Bud"; Beatrice Fahey; Clara Blair; Beverly Hotchkiss; Joyce Turck; Joan Buell; Josephine Gingerich; Geraldine Lévesque; and his infant brother Wayne.

His funeral will be on Friday, July 17th at 10:30 A.M. at the Lowville Baptist Church with Preacher Jim Pearson officiating. Military burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday July 16th from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
