LOWVILLE - Clara E. Davis, 96, formerly of Valley View Court, died on Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided since 2006. Her family would like to thank the Third Floor nursing staff and her close friend, Janet Burnham, for their comfort and care. Clara was born on January 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Joseph and Flora B. Olley Madison in Greig, NY where she attended school. On March 7, 1938, she was married to Charles Lewis Davis in Erie, PA. The couple took up residence on Climax Street in Castorland where Clara raised their two children and worked in her flower gardens while Mr. Davis was employed by Climax Mfg. They moved to Shady Ave in Lowville after his retirement. Clara's husband passed away in 1986. Clara was a familiar face managing the Lewis County General Hospital snack bar where she took charge of preparing countless sandwiches for the many visitors and employees always with a friendly smile. She retired in 1995, after 30 years of service. Clara was a fabulous cook and loved hosting a holiday meal topping it off with a delicious pie. She also very much enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Lowville United Methodist and a past member of the Castorland Methodist Church, and Urban Karcher Post #850, American Legion Auxiliary. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Sundquist Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the Memorial Service from 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. Memorials in Clara Davis' name may be made to the Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367. Surviving Mrs. Davis are her two children and their spouses: Dona and Leo Keenan of Black River and Wayne and Betty Davis of Lowville; grandchildren, Tammy and Richard Blunden, Becky and Sean Egnew and Cindy Renaud; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katelynn, Megan, Patrick, Jacqueline, Sean, Jr. and Kelcie and nieces and nephews. Clara was predeceased by two brothers: Roy "Stanley" Madison and Arthur F. Madison.
