LOWVILLE - Cherie Mae (Sylvester) Brigham, 80, died late Tuesday evening, September 23rd under the care of Lewis County Hospice and with her family by her side. She had resided at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility since May of 2024.
Cherie Mae (Sylvester) Brigham the daughter of the late Theodore and Marion (Campany) Sylvester was born on November 6, 1944 in Lowville. Cherie graduated from Lowville Academy, class of 1962. After being a stay at home mother, she went to work for Kraft Foods retiring in 2005 after 33 years of service.
On July 10, 1982, she was united in marriage with Leroy "Butch" Brigham with Jim Ingersoll officiating. For several years they enjoyed time bowling, camping, fishing, family gatherings and taking care of all their animals, both wild and domestic. "They" would do their best to save them all! Butch passed away on July 24, 2003.
In addition, she is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. (Richard) Bourgeois, from her first marriage; two grandchildren, Brittany (Doug) Salmon and Adam (Nicole Duncan) Bourgeois. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Landyn, Scarlett, Cadyn, Aryanna and Evelyn, her aunt, Gloria Campany, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Surviving also are very close friends, Pam and Jack Mather.
Cherie is predeceased by her sister, Sally S. (Joseph) Kafka, and other close family members.
Cherie was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a life member of American Legion Post #162 Auxiliary, and a former historian for the auxiliary.
Calling hours and memorial service for family and friends will be on Friday, October 3rd at the Sundquist Funeral Home, with calling hours from 11:00am to 1:00pm, followed by her service at 1:00pm, with Evan Zehr, officiating. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Cemetery.
The Brigham family would like to thank the 4th floor nursing staff for their compassion and care shown to their mother and grandmother.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW in Lowville on Sunday, October 26th from 1 to 4pm with the Nelson Brothers Band. Donations of finger foods and desserts are welcomed and encouraged to be dropped off at the VFW between 11am and 1pm that day.
