Obituary

LOWVILLE: Betty Payne Schlieder, 92, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be at the First Presbyterian Church, Lowville on August 8 at 11:30a.m. A reception will follow in the basement of the Church.
Betty was born in Bellville, NJ on March 18, 1925, a daughter of the late Harold A. and Bertha Jones Payne. After graduating from Lowville Academy in 1943, she received her Bachelor's degree in education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA. Betty taught kindergarten in Voorheesville, Marcellus and North Tonawanda. On July 30, 1949, she married John R. Schlieder at the First Presbyterian Church Lowville, with Rev. O.T. Anderson officiating. After Dental School for John, the couple made their home in Lowville where they became active community and church members.
Betty's love for reading led her in many directions. She was an excellent self-taught cook, she loved A. A. Milne and creating his stuffed animals, Pooh, Tiger, Eyore, Piglet, Kanga and Baby Roo. She enjoyed being a "second" mother to so many of you.
Surviving Betty are her husband of nearly 68 years, their 3 children; Nancy (Mark) Boucher; James (Jackie) Schlieder; Andrew (Mary Beth) Schlieder and 7 grand-children and 2 great- grandchildren. One son, John, died in 1977.
It is very important to note here the extreme competence and sensitive nature which was given by our Hospice people. It is a blessing to be able to work with these professionals. Any donations to hospice would be well worthwhile.
Betty chose to be donated to SUNY Upstate for scientific study.
