CASTORLAND - Bessie A. Farney, 90, died early Monday morning, April 15, 2024 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, where she has resided since March of 2023.

Mrs. Farney was born on January 7, 1934 in town of Lyonsdale, the daughter of the late Jacob and Helen (Hutchins) Loomis. She was adopted by her late parents, Arthur R. and Betty Tomelio Herzig. Bessie graduated from Beaver River High School. She married Clifton M. Farney on October 12, 1958 at Evangelical Baptist Church with Rev. John Bahler officiating. She worked for Beaverite in Croghan until she started her family. She and Clifton made their home in Castorland. Clifton died on June 9, 2004. Bessie stayed in Castorland for a few years, and then made her home with her son Wayne and his family.

She is survived by her two children, Wayne C. (Penny) Farney, and Dawn M. Farney; her five grandchildren, James A. (Kathleen) Farney, Shauna M. (Dan) Roggie, Kevin K. Hill, Erica M. Farney (Matthew Nortz), and Robert C. Farney; her five great-grandchildren, Xavier, Raven, Luke, Lillian, and Evelyn; her sister-in-law, Regina G. "Jeanie" Herzig; nieces and nephews.

Bessie is predeceased by her granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Farney, and her brother, Bradley L. Herzig, Sr.

The funeral will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:00am at the Apostolic Christian Church of America with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Calling hours for family and friends will be on Thursday, April 18th, from 6:00 until 8:00pm at the Sundquist Funeral Home.

Bessie was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of America, she enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
