TURIN - Bernice Ruth Wojnowski, 91, of East Main Street and recently Sunset Nursing Home, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. Bernice was born August 26, 1921, on the family farm on the Carpenter Road, Houseville, the daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth Hadik Paluck. She attended rural schools on the Carpenter Road and in the Turin area. Bernice was very proud to have served her country in the U.S. Army Air Force, "WAC'S" during World War II from 1944 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. After the war, Bernice lived in Warsaw, NY, working at the Warsaw Button Factory for a short time. Bernice married Matthew C. Wojnowski on August 23, 1947, at Coudersport, PA. Matthew died on May 16, 2006. She later worked as a seamstress for Kristen International in Turin. Bernice was a member of the Turin United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered for many church activities. Bernice was well known in the Turin area for being an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed it like a hobby. She loved gardening, canning, being a homemaker and her family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Matthew P. & Nancy Wojnowski of Chugiak, AK; Rodney P. & Lydia Wojnowski of Turin; her grandchildren, Matthew Q. & Audra Wojnowski; Michael Wojnowski; Krysta & Aaron Gard; Diana & Scot Luther; two sisters, Theresa & Edward Ingersoll of Lowville; Caroline Matula of Boonville. She was predeceased by two sisters, Victoria Wasco, Mary Wasco and brother, John Paluck. Funeral services will be held at the Sundquist Funeral Home on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joan Ripp officiating. Military burial will be in Turin Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the service on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Bernice's name to Turin Fire Department, Main Street, Turin, NY 13473.
