LOWVILLE - Alice Everard Farney, 75, formerly of State Route 410, died Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Mark Hitchcock where Alice had made her home. Alice was born on April 10, 1937 in Beaver Falls at the family homestead the daughter of the late Gregory and Lavina Sherman Everard. She attended Father Leo School in Croghan and worked for Climax Mfg. in Castorland for several years. She married Donald N. Farney on August 10, 1957 at the home of their minister Philip Beyer. The couple lived in Rhode Island for several years during Donald's Navy service. They purchased their first farm in 1974 on the Second Road in Carthage where they raised their seven children who survive her, Noreen Bassette and her fiancé Tracy Riggs of Auberndale, FL; Norbert and JoAnne of Carthage; Roger and Maren of Watertown; Joe and Donna of Castorland; Leah and Mark Hitchcock of Lowville; Ed and Amy of Castorland; Charles and Lori of Orlando, FL.; grandchildren, Renee, Matt, Sarah, Nichole, Breslyn, Tory, Tyrus, Brionna, Tarren, Shannon, Ben, Joshua, Adam, and Autumn; and ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Lynn, Clark, Robert, and Larry; two sisters, Doris and Betty; two sisters-in-law, Lois and Ginny. She is predeceased by her two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Farney and Alexis Lucia Scanlin; her twin brother Allen who died in infancy, three brothers, Roy, Donald and Dr. Kenneth Everard; and a sister Vivian. After a short stint in Ohio they bought their second farm on the Griffith Road in Lowville. The couple traveled extensively visiting the south to see their children and west to see our great nation. They spent two winter retreats in Mississippi dedicating themselves to hurricane Katrina relief. Alice and Donald traveled to Alaska as a gift for their 50th anniversary from their children. Donald died on Monday, August 10, 2009. Alice was gifted with great patience and a contagious smile. In her entire life she never spoke negatively of anyone and loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren greatly. She was a member of Apostolic Christian Church of America, Croghan, and was active in North Lowville Home Dem., and her weekly dialysis club. Her funeral service will be on Monday, October 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
